At first we all were excited, we all could not wait to try it, to see it, to experience it… This was the future! Here, right in front of everyone, we had it, we controlled it, and it was glory!! We dreamt of what we’d be able to do with it, what it would become with it’s further perfection. It would solve our most mundane tasks, it would lead to automation and robotics and artificial intelligence and make our lives what we all imagined in the far off dystopian future. First, the smartest among us could only operate it, then the distribution to companies, to education centers, then a couple of your friends got it. The desperation and interest crept up to a boiling point you could not control. You started to research how to get one for yourself, if you were young enough you began begging your parents to get one. It was the first newspaper, the first motor car, the first radio broadcast, or the first television broadcast…this…was…history! And everyone wanted a piece of the thrill. Or at least they did until… All of the hype, the pressure valve of excitement building up in us was quickly cut short. The ability of having it all right there before us came to a screeching halt when our reality was met with waiting. For all the excitement we were left with nothing but annoyance. All the thought of the future, and we were left with the rudimentary tools of the past. The frustration every time of the boring, loud, challenge crushed our thrill and hopes for the future. Though the moment in all reality was brief it felt endless, and it was in that moment that we had the audacity to question if we’d really even come that far.
