You tiptoe quietly, oh…but not too quietly. That’s the key, you don’t want to have to see, but you don’t want to startle. It is ours as much as it is theirs, but when it comes to power it is all theirs. They rule it. We think we do, and in some regards that is true, but here, where my foot falls, my breath, and heartbeat all in perfect rhythm. The heartbeat is rapid from the exercise, but it’s also from the fear of possible surprise. Some of us do this frequently, some occasionally, some of us, not at all. For those that are out here frequently, there may be a comfort, a confidence that comes with experience, and a knowledge of how to react. Even so, there is an importance in being humble. They are larger, more skilled, stronger, and even if they don’t let you on to it right away, they are much faster. They will know of your presence long before you know of theirs. Those of us that do not come out here but only occasionally may not have the same type of experience and knowledge, but can sometimes be much more humble. Both types can be just as dangerous to themselves and safe from the possible surprise. They are unpredictable, this is why the surprise can be so scary – they could be hungry, angry, scared, protective, or they could even have been surprised themselves. You do everything in your power to avoid it, but is there a little part of you that wonders how you could stand up to them. Maybe you’ve got what it takes? You don’t go out of your way to test it, but you do wonder, you keep coming out here, and you know the threats you face. Some do go out there to be humbled, maybe that’s you. Though some go out there and become humbled. Which are you?
